I've got two questions which are vaguely connected:
1. Did Robert the Bruce land in the Isle of Man to claim it for Scotland? And if so what happened? 2. Did the kings of Scotland ever want to push their borders Southwards? All the best. |

Hirta,
Prior to the wars of independence Scottish kings often claimed that Northumbria was rightfully part of their realm. In the twelfth century David I was married to an Anglo-Saxon Princess called Matilda and she was the heir to Northumbria. Therefore legally David did have a legitimate claim to this land for his son. |

The Isle of Man came under Scottish jurisdiction in 1266 as part of the Treaty of Perth between Alexander III of Scotland and Hakon IV of Norway.
Edward Longshanks of England gained control of Man as part of his 1296 conquest of Scotland, and Bruce regained it for Scotland in 1313. |
