PIcti can also mean speckled, andin this context that would mean of mixed genes I.e not a pure race (Romans loved that kind of stuff) It is possible that the 7 kingdoms of the picts where infact all diferent indigionous peoples which include that Matae, the attacoti, the Caledonii,Brigantes, sacndanavian settlers and irish, called the picts because thay interbred.
