Hello everyone..
I am new and i need some help.. I am looking for any help concerning the early Dymock family, in the 12th century.. My sources lead me to France, England, Wales, Scotland, Danemark and even Israel. The first Dymock rememred was Thomas, Champion to King Henry the 4th. He had a grandfather named Henry, sir knght, usher of the exchequer, but no one knows where he came from or who he was.. I met a genealogist in Covent garden who showed me a book talking about a John Dymock, late 12th century, who had a banner, very rare for the time, showing the head of a boar. Can anyone help me ? thank you very much, this is starting to bug me a little.. |

Hi Jessiemoira, the only Dymock I know of is the village of
Dymock, which is delightfully surrounded by rolling hills and agricultural landscape much loved by the Dymock poets who lived in the area before the Great War. Lascelles Abercrombie was the first to arrive, living in a timber framed thatched cottage below Ryton Woods; Wilfred Wilson Gibson was to follow and set up home at Greenway Cross. Between them, they organised a quarterly poetry magazine entitled "New Numbers". It was published from Ryton and included poems written by their friends Rupert Brook and John Drinkwater. They were joined by Robert Frost and Edward Thomas in the summer of 1914, the last summer they were all to be together. Their homes still stand, altered slightly by the passage of time and are now in private ownership. In the village of Dymock there are several interesting buildings which include cruck beam cottages; "The White House", which was the birthplace of John Kyrle-Man of Ross in 1637, Ann Cam School of 1825 and St. Mary's Church, a patch work history in brick and stone with anglo-norman origins. Nearby stands the only remaining village pub, purchased for the community by the Parish Council, which is now run on their behalf by a management company. Dymock is renowned for its wild daffodils in the spring. The church at Dymock dominates the village centre as it lies back from the road behing the chestnut trees and massive old yew. It is basically Norman, with a richly sculptured Norman doorway which represents the work of the Dymock school of sculpture. A Tympanum depicts the tree of life which is thought to be the same mason's work as at Kempley. Inside, there is a great sense of size, and interesting features include a 13th century stone coffin lid, a 17th century turned oak font and some good modern glass by Kempe. The corner of the church however, is dedicated to the famous Dymock poets where there is an interesting display. |

thanks
hi,
thank you.. i already knew of the village Dymock.. Gosh, dymock is a very complicated search.. Tee-moch means pigsty, i know that in welsh.. talks are of my ancestor being an " ap maddog";.never verified .. but then, sources lead me to scotland each time and i am wondering about the good intentions of some people concerning my research..i can't explain here and now, but let's just say that history has been "deliberately" hidden.. anyway, Sir Thomas Dymock was champion to king henry the 4th ..In that history, the very early dymock got married to william the conqueror's grandaughter.. i doubt his granddaughter would have been given to marry just a simple soldier ? or am i wrong ? As WELL, in Welsh gaelic, the translation or DI MOCH/MOCK, or whatver spelling it was means " MY GOD" and moch it present in the hebrew language as well.. i don't think the original name has anything to do wit hthe town Dymock..in Welsh, french, scottish and hebrew, it is linked to something else.. that's why i need help, because i have much too many links and i have been on this for years..sadly, i do not have enough money to pay reseachers and i do this for my grandfather who si old and who would liek to know.. My grandfather is Peter, son of Jasper, who is son of Sir Thomas of Scrivelsby... thanks for your help if you can.. jessica moira |
