Even today, some of us forget what our brothers and sisters fought for. We forget the atrocities that the English put us through (and still are). I find it hard to believe why anyone would want to bow down to ANY king or queen, regardless of their country of origin.

Personally Id feel no more free bowing down to a king even if he lived next door to me.

I think the present Queen probably has a reasonable claim to be the legitimate ruler of Scotland inasmuchas she has a direct lineage back to the Stewart kings.Of course it should be remembered that the Stewart claim to the throne itself is dubious given that in terms of primogeniture-that is direct descent from the royal line-Robert the Bruce probably didn't have a legitimate claim to be the King of Scots in the first place.It could be argued that mediaeval Scots kings governed the realm by consent which for it's time was a very sophisticated concept of government.
