Hi Sonsie, I didn't know you love history too, that's wonderful.
Come to think of it I don't know much of female scottish heroes idea.I don't know what the queen of scots actually accopmlished, but I think Mary Slessor who stopped the killing of Twins in the south-southern part of my native Nigeria, is more of a heroine .

I found this URL about Margot Asquith, as well as a slew of other brilliant and not so brilliant Scottish Women:http://www.firstfoot.u-net.com/Great%20Scot/greatscotframemain.htm

Mayflower, welcome
I'm so glad you liked the Mary Slessor article, as I said previously, she was a heroine of mine from childhood.
Thanks for the wee bit about the twins, sometimes one wonders about whether ppl from the country involved look on someone like Mary Slessor as interfering with their culural beliefs so it's good to get the feedback

Mayflower: Yes, I'm a fellow history fan. I agree with you that Mary Slessor is a heroine.

Alexis: Great URL!

Unfortunately I can't respond to Jarmine here. I'll miss her input on the boards.

I just thought of a living famous woman... author JK Rowling. She was living on public assistance with her infant daughter in a tiny Edinburgh flat when her first Harry Potter book was published. Good for her! I love real rags-to-riches stories. She currently earns more than any other woman in the UK.

Here's an interview with her. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ts...408764-2500755

Hey, I didn't even know she was Scottish! I am willing to bet she makes a great deal more than most women in the US and Europe, too!

Alexis: I did some more reading, and found out that she was raised in England. It mentioned her mother was half-French/half-Scottish, but didn't say about her father. I suspect he was English. As far as I know, she still lives in Embra. She might be making more at this point than any other UK woman, but don't forget the taxes. I think high earners in the US make more because they get taxed less.
