history books

I'd like to grab some information about british history, specially scottish. But I don't know which book is worth reading. Any propositions?

The History of Scotland by Neil Oliver is a good one to start with. Also check out A History of Scotland by J Mackie and Scotland: a New History by Michael Lynch.

I've never really found British history to be taught along patriotic lines - in fact I'd say we're quite the opposite.

British history = Scotland... i'm sure that's a non-biased report.

Try some books by Donald Ross... at least he was Scottish...

From an earlier time: John Prebble. He wrote books that explained things like Culloden, the highland clearances, the Darien fiasco etc. He was an Englishman who moved to Canada. Still doesn't make him a bad person!
