Pre 1419 - Tribes

In the post invasion reporting about Iraq there's been a considerable discussion about the importance of tribes in political and and social life. Well that got me thinking.
While no scholar, I have read quite a few histories which cover the area of modern day Iraq from 3500 BC to the fall of the Ottoman Empire, but I don't remember any of them specifying tribal organisation. I would have presumed that they had disappeared with the rise of the Empires. So when did tribal society disappear from England, France, the rest of Europe and China and was tribal society effectively destroyed in the core areas of the Roman Empire?

My first thought was - why's Scotland not mentioned?

Anyway, I may give a proper answer later if I get the time.

Probably just outwith the scope of her study. I know next to nothing about the pre-history of anywhere in the southern hemisphere, but not because I have anything against it or wouldn't be interested if I did start to study it - it's simply because my studies have been focused elsewhere.

It does appear that the stone age aboriginal peoples of Australia were actually more advanced at one point in their tool making and life styles than their European counterparts.

Quite surprising really but goes to show how much more we need to learn.

Or it might be that the initial post is a vehicle for the spam , just as it is for the other two threads started by the same thread author
