There is no need to promote it in this country. Thanks largely to TV shows like "Time Team", there is a huge interest in the subject among the general public. This has led to there being considerably more qualified, and student, archaeologists than there are available jobs.

Twenty or thirty years ago, practically anybody could just walk into archaeology - and many amateurs did good work, too. It's entirely different now.

Found an unrecorded soldiers camp from 1730, had the wee Highland Region archaeologist out for a look, that was his opinion but no money for a dig unless it was threatened. wullie m

You need corporate sponsorship Wullie .
Get a television production house interested .
Bone up on all the local history relevant to the site and become the local expert on the program

Dut, the site was connected to General Wade's road building programme to pacify the highlands (think he made himself a few bob on the side) or that of his sucessor General Caulfield, a wee lane with four compartments each side and two at the top with a further building behind. Very remote spot, metal detectors are banned each side of the military road and the village website or estate haven't publicised the site for this reason. Found a bar of pig iron once and a few clay pipes. wullie m
