Mary King's Close
I have been in Mary King's Close now twice and as a tourist attaction, it is definitly on my top 5 things to do in Edinburgh, it is a place that time forgot, and gives a VERY clear picture of life in the city hundreds of years ago.......garde looooooooo. However, both times the tours talk about the plague and how it is 'rumoured' that the city council 'blocked' up doors and windows of homes essentially leaving people to die, in a desperate efferort to stop the spread of the plague.
It is denied by the tour guides as rumour ! - but talking to local people they say it is true. I would be inclined to believe the local knowledge. does anyone have any opinion or anything to add?

When I was a child, we were 'told' that people were walled up in the Close - but I honestly don't know if it's true or just an Edinburgh legend! It is a truly atmospheric place, though, eh?
