I just found that reference as well - and also here where it says:

Quote:
No record of its use in Scotland after the battle of the Standard in 1138,where it was borne as the Scottish royal standard.
There doesn't seem to be any mention of it prior to that date either so could it have been a one-off?

Quite possibly, but likewise it can't be said that King David didn't use it on other occasions either. Lack of evidence is not, after all, evidence of absence. Either way, a dragon was indeed a Scottish Royal standard (for an uncertain period of time).

I've never ever heard of the dragon, however, I have heard of the Boar as our national symbol

I think you mean "I had never ever heard of the dragon, however, I have heard of the Boar as our national symbol".

What's the blinkin' difference? Fer fox sake!

A Dhia,
dean trocair oirnn,
agus saor sinn bhon na pedants.
Oir is leatsa an rioghachd,
an cumhachd,
agus a' ghloir,
gu siorraidh.
Amen!

It's not pedantry, the two mean entirely different things. The post you replied to was saying, essentially, "well, now you have heard of it". Your original statement suggested that you still haven't.
