Paul McGovern and George ‘Geo’ Madden have been named as co-owners of Lanarkshire-based M&M Security Scotland Ltd. Part of the McGovern crime family, Paul McGovern has served time for murder.
The murder, I seem to remember reading elsewhere, was of a janitor at Springburn Academy. When it was demolished and rebuilt a couple of years ago guess which security firm was hired to "protect" the site. Yes, M&M Security.

INDEED. On a similar vein, Paul Ferris's Frontline Security were once in charge of protecting the fire-ravaged Provanmill Inn, where the infamous Thompson family once plotted to have Ferris killed. This pub was the centre of Arthur Thompson Snr's empire and was being protected by the gangland rival accused of murdering his son. Ironic.

Some are much the same but there are other outlets for gang-related operations as well. Entertainment & catering is still a favourite, along with pub-bouncer firms/event security, in particular. I was extremly surprised to find that a pretty notorious bike gang I knew from my youth had transformed themselves into one of the leading door-security firms in the North-East. The guys on their doors may be reasonably legit - many are students/postgrads, making extra cash for their studies but their bosses have quite a record & a good few decades of serious gaol-time between them.

It will be interesting to see what happens when SIA-Licencing is fully implemented in Scotland next year & the old local licencing schemes are wound-up. After that, in order to get a licence to operate, all people connected with all aspects of private security will have to pass the same record/character checks that are currently only required for frontline-staff.

As you can imagine, the mouthpieces for many of these firms are up in arms about how bad the new scheme will be for security in Scotland.

this is aberdeen - news, entertainment, jobs, homes and cars

To give you an idea of the costs involved, the cost of one of the new licences & training is still less than the cost of hiring one of these guys for two nights. So I doubt the firms will be that hard-hit.
