Scots as Israelites??

Greetings,
This is my first post on the board. After reading some of the knowledgable posters work here I thought I would ask for some comments on the Anglo-Israel claim that the Scots, along with the Irish and English, are actually the ancient peoples of Israel. These people like to claim that the Declaration of Arbroath supports this assertion but, from my reading, this is not true at all. I am in a debate right now with a man who asserts that this doctrine is "mainstream" and "common knowledge" amongst the people of the Misty Isles. This person claims that proof of all of this exists in the "College of Arms" in England.

I am of Scottish and English heritage but born here in America. I was hoping
on getting some comments from some folks who are familar with this claim.
From my studies thus far, I have found the theory to be based on unsupported claims made as early as the 1400's.

Thanks in advance for those willing to comment.

Regards,
A.S.

We had a recent visit from a gentleman who spammed these boards with posts on this topic.

It's a non-starter, really.

Why Anglo-Israel if it includes the Scots and the Irish (why not the Welsh, I ask?!)? Shouldn't it be "Hiberno-Scotto-Anglo-Israel"?

"This person claims that proof of all of this exists in the "College of Arms" in England"

Some European noble families claim descent from Odin too. Go figure. Better to be descended from lost tribes of Israel, Trojans, Pharaohs etc than Ugg of Balset Green.

What about the Court of the Lord Lyon King of Arms? I would have thought that had a few answers.

Peter,
Thanks for the tip. I sent an e-mail asking about this very question and here's what John Duncan of the Court of the Lord Lyon King of Arms had to say

"I dont know who makes the claim but I think its absalout garbage"

Thanks again!
