My country, Australia, is focused upon the indigenous people of our land, the subject being British Aggression; Scotland and Ireland are never taken into account by the majority of people. Due to succession and whatever took the fancy of the past British monarchy, Scotland was eventually taken over, despite centuries of aggression. How could this be ignored? What about our heritage which was also a subject to the aggression of a country out of control? i am not at all racist, in fact i totally sympathise with the aboriginals of our land, but i would love to also have my ancestors who died recognised as well, people who died for their country and way of life. i am continuously outraged by the total lack of respect shown to my (as well as the majority of you on this forum) ancestors, it is appalling. if the British should say sorry to anyone, it should be to all. Yet that is a double edged sword as the current government was not at all responsible for the acts taken against countries against the past. i guess what our parents taught us was correct " why can't we all just get along?"

Excuse me?

Scotland has been part of the United Kingdom since the Union of the Crowns in 1603 and then the union of the parliaments in 1707... The oldest regiment in the BRITISH army is a Scots regiment.
When you talk about Britain.... you obviously mean England. If you mean England, then say it.

And, you are making an assumption that the posters on here are foreigners. Some of us are Scottish born and bred.

I think you've just highlighted the major problem with your post...

Since 1707 actually.

Most people in the world use Britain and England interchangably, including me, Americans and the English. Scots will just have to accept this.

Albanactus is correct, us mere "foreigners" do refer to England as Britain and vice versa, as most American textbooks will show. It is a habit rather than being ourselves being uneducated, but i do apologise. And Polwarth, i think i would know that the majority of those on this forum would be Scottish, i can READ the name of the website. Civility costs you nothing. Ta

True Colours
Did you think that perhaps if your first posts on this site had been less confrontational and adversarial, the replies would have been more polite?

You cannot 'assume' anything about this site. It is NOT a Scottish site - it is owned by an American company. There ARE a few Scots on this board, but we are vastly outnumbered by the 'foreigners' on here.

The word 'native' under our screen names is a misnomer.... it means someone who has made over a certain number of posts, and has absolutely no bearing on the nationality of the poster.

i do apologise to all if i have offended, especially Polwarth, it was not my intention to be confrontational, unfortunately enough i am incredibly strong minded and i stick to my beliefs, however badly i may bring them across to anyone. However, i am open to what anyone has to say, life is a learning process and so i do thank people for input and i do want to believe that i am open-minded enough to adapt whatever info i get into my own personal beliefs.
