I've heard the theory before that a Scottish influence has been responsable for the Klan. I'm not sure if the firey cross used in the highlands to summon the clans was only used in Scotland and if it was as well as the 'klan' used in the name suggests maybe something Scottish.
I'm not sure and I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong but did the Klan not originally start as some sort of secret society with nothing to do with what they are associated with today and the recent past?

Forming clans or Klans yes, maybe, why not? But why specifically the KKK? Why should people being victims of racism and slavery themselves congregate to pursue racism and slavery?
Makes me wonder.

Thanks aNonnyMoose for confirming that as I remember hearing that.
I presume the Scottish connection has more to do with the original lot rather than the later lot, so to speak?

The Confederate Battle Flag incorporated the Cross of St Andrew into it's design,as did the Naval Jack of the Confederate Navy.
Nathan Bedford Forrest, the great Confederate General was the first Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan but resigned not long after. |
