Unlike the reasons given by one certain Gael the troubles where not started by Protestants burning out Catholics. It was quite the opposite actually. The troubles where sparked off by the weakness of one Terrance O Neill (former prime minister of northern ireland) who became to Liberal for his own good and introduced reforms that would lead to violence. He was ousted from his postion and replaced by his cosin.

Feirce resentment of the N.I state lead to a remergence of the PIRA in the early seventies who started a campaighn of terror on both Ulster and the mainland.

We now have the Good Friday Agreement which was supposed to end the troubles once and fo all however it was biased towards the nationlist section of the community. The Unionist who opposed where forced to go under an administration where knowen IRA terrorists where placed in power for example Martin McGuniess who was famous for throwing petrol bombs during bloody sunday was made Minister for education(in charge of Northern Irelands children) hows that for democracey.

The agreement is to be redrafted to make it a "Fair Deal"for all. One more thing it done was to release all the killers we had put in jai and let them out early.

So there you have it Gael the history of the troubles to the present day ezcluding all those killings etc caused by both sides and all those bombs like the shankill omagh and the docklands.

Strange though it may seem, most people use this forum to discuss matters of Scottish history.

I am sure there are websites elsewhere that deal with your own preoccupations.

I couldn't agree more, Celyn

SirKnight - there are loads of websites dedicated to fighting the Battle of the Boyne - hundreds of years on.... Have a google search and you're bound to find many, congenial sites where your areas of interest and concern are more relevant than here on a Scottish site.

The Irish 'troubles' are an emotive subject - best tackled by those that live there.

We're Scots. Please don't export your problems to us.

It's not 'unfair', merely truthful.
