I was just wondering if anyone could help me out with my third yead dissertation?! The question is "Why isn't the Daily Record printed in Scots?" The question speaks for itself so I wont say anymore - just wondering if you could point me in the direction of any information to do with this. Ive checked out the Daily Record website but they dont have anything on this matter. Thankyou!!

"Why isn't the Daily Record printed in Scots?"
I presume that you are based in Scotland, and that you are fairly familiar with the content of the Daily Record? Why even bother looking at their website in this connection? There certainly have been proper newspapers in Gaelic, and there may even have been low-circulation news-sheets published from time to time in Scots. However I'd be surprised if there have ever been any newspapers in the modern accepted sense published in Scots. The Herald has been going for over 200 years, and it's always been in English. Since around the time of the Union, English has been the pre-eminent language of education, and the formal written language of communication in Scotland. |

Well that is an easy one to answer if you printed the papers is Gelga Scots the Edinburgh folk would NOT be able to read it.
![]() If you printed in Aberdeen scots then the Gelga folks would NOT be able to read it. And if you printed it in Dundee scots the Forfar folk WOULD be able to read it. ![]() ![]() |
