Why do unionists have to buy into the whole ein Volk ein Reich (one people, one kingdom) deal?

I don't see why... In fact, it's probably because the status quo never fully accepts Scotland as a nation, even within the union, that we have so many problems.

But the BBC etc, are trying damn hard to wipe out all memory of the fact... by constantly referring to the whole UK as "the nation", and conflating it with England. But they still have their oddities, better not to mention their idea of "regions", which has "the north west" south of Scotlandshire. I don't think the UK is a "nation" or "country", but if I did, wouldn't the north west be in Scotland, and the north east of it be around Aberdeen?

You should count yourself lucky: the reason 'North-East' and 'North-West' usually refers to England and not Scotland is because Scotland is almost always recognised as a contiguous, nationally distinct area, whilst England is not. Hence England is denied whilst Scotland is not, and English nationalists are only too aware of this - have a look at some of their websites and you'll see them expressing the same grievencies as you.

As an aside, I also find this extremely irritating - as someone with a degree in physical geography, inaccurate nomenclature is a real faux pas!

I've no problem with it, but either they stop calling the UK a nation/country, or they call them nw/ne England. Where's the big deal in that? It's offensive to no one.

I think if people who have never been to scotland read the daily record they would think its a country full of "neds" who listen to Darius and michelle Mcmanus all day and need to wear a stab vest and have a Jack Mcconnell dart board.

its very negative in its reporting of scottish issues it reminds me of the English Daily mirror.
