Talking Battle of Culloden

Hello Sherbrookejacobite.
I too have an intrest in the Battle of Culloden as I have been doing research on our family who
cane fom Scotland to Canada sometime in the 1800s, I heard that we had fought in the above
battle in which we were almost erased from existance, the question is would you know of any
records which lists the clans or septs that fought at Culloden all enformation would be appreciated.

Thank You.

Do a Wikipedia search - there is lots on Battle of Culloden - or do as Sherbrooke Jacobite suggested in 2004 and look at the Muster Rolls of Charles Edward Stuart! The Wiki site has the battle order for both sides, ie the Jacobite and the British army. I don't know what side your family fought for.

Talking culloden

Hello Polwarth:
Thank you for the info will do that search, just for info our family did not fight with the English
as it was Cumberland who put many of our family to the sword after the battle and during
a lot of them were killed this has been confirmed by one of my Aunts who is in her Nineties
thank you again.

Just for info... as there were quite a few Scots fighting alongside Cumberland and some English with the Jacobites, the battle of Culloden was NOT the English fighting the Scots!

Thank you for pointing that out ScotSites... it worries me that so many foreigners (and some native Scots) still think it was a war between Scotland and England!

There are quite a few people that try to keep that myth going! In my opinion they fall in to one of the following categories: people who have been fed the lie and haven't got either the inclination or even the ability to do their own research; anti-English numpties who can only see what they want and probably even believe the other myth that the Jacobite Risings were an attempt to regain independence for Scotland; and last, but not least, idiots! Actually that last category might just be a quick way to sum up the other two... I'll leave it up to the individuals concerned to select their own category; or maybe there are some out there who can actually learn something!
