you have as good a claim as any... does your husband know the history of the clan ? doubt it, does he know that in 1318 the clan chattan (of which the Davidsons where prominent) undertook an invasion of Ireland under Edward Bruce... leading many 20th century Davidsons to believe that they are Irish.....

Unfortunatly you are wrong my friend... check out the battle of north inch... circa 1350... between the Davidsons and the Macphersons ... a dispute over the right to lead the right flank of the clan Chattan... the Laird lived at Tullock castle in Moray... also visit the sight of Culloden, clan Chattan positions are clearly marked. American site names 15 Davidsons put on trial in the wake of Charles Stuarts defeat and though some where hanged several where deported ( 5 are sent to Ireland) the population of Scotland in 1881 had recovered considerably from the highland clearances but people where still outnumbered by sheep.... My Grandmother was MacGifford and claimed descent from MacGregor ( through the female line) always had my doubts... but hey you never Know....

I am a member of the Clan Davidson Association, but my name isn't Davidson.
My maternal grandfathers ancestors came from Scotland and their surname was Dean (an associated family in Clan Davidson). I had to seek permission from the Clan Chief before I joined the CDA. I would take issue with NonServitas about the Battle of North Inch, as I do not believe that Clan Davidson were a big enough clan to warrant a great national trial-by-combat in front of the King. I believe it was between Clan Chattan and Clan Cameron. The muster roll of Prince Edward Stuart's Army (1745-46) shows that Clan Chattan (or more properly, Lady MacKintoch's Regiment) had 2 Davidson men in the ranks: 1. Alexander Davidson (24 years)from Nairn. Taken at Culloden and died on 6 June 1746. 2. John Davidson from Banchar Mor. Surrendered.
