Hello!
I am wondering where the name Wendy comes from, (origins and history! ) besides Peter Pan ! it has both celtic and Northern origins, but i can't get hold on to any kind of evidence ? It derives from Gwendolyn ( various spellings )... if that could be any help ?! thanks to all Lady of Eilean Donan |

Hello
I seem to recall that I was taught that Wendy was a name made up by J M Barrie - and the following site would seem to bear this out!
I grant you, it is a little like Gwendolyn - but I seem to recall that I read somewhere that J M Barrie was adamant that he had made it up! http://www.babynamenetwork.com/detai...&gender=Female |

Here is a website that I found that gives a great history of the name and states that Barrie did and didn't invent the name...it goes into detail what Barrie's contribution was exactly.
http://www.wendy.com/wendyweb/history.html I was named Wendy after the song by the Association in 1968 (the year I was born) called "Windy". My mom spelled my name with an "e" instead of an "i". |
