The NMS frequently hosts exhibitions of objects and artefacts from other museums throughout the world-the Chinese warriors was one notable example of this-and on occasion they lease out their own artefacts to be exhibited in other museums. This is how museums operate-they retain ownership of artefacts while leasing them out on a temporary basis in order that people throughout the world can view original objects rather than replicas.

The problem with getting the interest of the British museum and Scotland's National Museum is that this story boarders on sensationalism, so no one wants to take the time out to check out the facts behind the claim. But once it's comfirmed by one major authority, I'll have everyone calling me, including the Pope.

Sakhu,
High quality silverware from the early middle ages is extremely rare.If you had in your possesion even one such article it would be remarkable.Precious metals were in very short supply in Scotland during the middle ages and many such items would have been melted down to be transformed into coinage etc.Or they would perhaps have been plundered during the wars of independence. That such a large number of items which are apparently in mint condition could survive to the present day is impossible and if they are in existence they would be worth an astronomical sum of money.

This I do agree with - although this still not solve the problem of building museum at every location at which an object is found, as is seemingly advocated by other posters on this board.
