I have a few questions I hope someone out there can help me answer. I am writing a short story for a fictional writing class and would like some info on the islands around Scotland. Like how many are there, inhabited, not inhabited? I hope someone can help or send me a link that will! Thanks in advance!

Hi Allycat, in total there are well over 500 islands both inhabited and uninhabited around the coast of Scotland. I was born and bred on the Isle of Bute which lies about 8 miles off the west coast of Scotland. They have a good website which may help in your research, go to

Thanks for the link Neil.
I have a fondness for the islands. I know you were really just after links, but if you ever see the book "An Island Odyssey" by Hamish Haswell-Smith, please take a look. It is wonderfully presented, and covers sailing round the islands, giving those statistics, some insight, and watercolours. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...706391-3320643 |
