Is there still anger felt between the Scottish and the English?

jamie_jame20,
Nowadays the relationship between the Scots and the English is reasonably friendly. There is intense rivalry between the two countries in sport etc. but generally speaking there is no real hostility.

It really does depend on who you talk to. A quick tour of many nationalist web forums (both Scottish and English) can reveal intense xenephobia towards the other, but these irrational views are fortunately held by a distinct minority.

I have English work colleagues, neighbours, and went to school and college with English people; and I have to say that there is absolutely no animosity at all. Quite a few Scots live in England and have no problems with the natives.

People in both countries are mature enough for there to be no significant trouble. Of course you get idiots in any country, we are not short of them in Scotland, and discussion forums act as a magnet to them!

Seconded! Heck, most of the people I studied with were English, and I worked in the south of England for long anough. Um, I really don't think I lost too much sleep imagining anyone was going to bomb me in my bed.

Ask Babz who is by birth English, but by family Scottish, whether she finds great animosity in everyday life. Or ask Marhar.

But Monco is right[/b] in saying that message boards will, of course, attract some people who prefer only to look for trouble.

Still, most people know to ignore them - that is about all that can be said. One can only hope that that sort of troublemaker grows up, vanishes, finds a new interest..... -oh , I don't know what.

Thanks for all of your replys. I was just curious because I've read a lot of books about England and Scotland. I know that here in the U.S. there's still much anger between blacks and whites. Even though the war has been over for a very long time. It all really boils down to ignorance and immaturity.
