Hello, My name is Danny McLeod. I am trying to trace my ancestors as for back as is possible. I am also useing them for a school project. I have some information on my family line in Nova Scotia, Canada, when I live now, but none on my fmily before they came to Canada. My great, great grandfather was John Mairie MacLeod and was born on a boat Crossing the Atlantic Ocean in 1828, going to Canada, From Lewis Island. His mother was a widow names Mairie MacLeod. Further back than that I can't find anything else. I am really hopeing someone can either tell me more, or tell me where I can go to find more information or more help. I am really hopeing someone can help me soon. Thank you everyone, and please help me if you cn, this is very importnt to me.

-if u need to e-mail me my address is:

Hi, just wanted to ask what sort of info you need. If you are looking for family members, I think Marhar can help you if you just move over to the clans forum, but he's on holiday the next two weeks. If it concerns the Clan Mac Leod of Lewis, I think you should contact them. I will post a link here later, okay?

This is unrelated, but I have a similar problem, so I was wondering how you post a new thread? It's probably really obvious, but I can't find it anywhere... it would be appreciated, thanks

Hello
Go to the opening page of the 'history' (or other, relevant forum). Click on 'new thread'. HINT: It's at the top of the relevant page on each forum on this site!

MacLeods from Lewis and Harris

Hi

Bill Lawson runs Co leis Thu on the Isle of Harris, he could help.

The genealogical resource at Co Leis Thu? is based on the research carried out over many years by Bill and Chris Lawson, who are internationally known as authorities on genealogy on families from the Western Isles of Scotland.
Virtually every household in the Outer Hebrides in the last 200 years has been researched, and a resource bank of over 30,000 family tree sheets has been gathered, together with details of many families who emigrated to Canada, USA, Australia etc.
Family tracing in the Outer Hebrides has always proved difficult, due to the scarcity and poor quality of formal source material, but from the resource available at Co Leis Thu? it is usually possible to chart families back to the generation born cI750-80 - and frequently much farther.
The resource of Co Leis Thu? has been donated to the Northton Heritage Trust, and is now situated in the Seallam! Visitor Centre. The staff here will be happy to advise on the availability of material from the resource
as a professional service to genealogists and researchers -and Bill and Chris Lawson are usually available to help with more complex research.

For info, the original posts on this thread are well over 8 years old and I doubt your recommendation will be followed up. However. I'd second that.

Separately, I see you have both Lewis and Harris connections. My mother was from South Harris and my father was from Great Bernera.
