anyone every try those fat free chips made with olestra??

i was in the grocery store yesterday and i had a craving for chips so i bought some (pringles)... (by the way they didn't taste all that bad)... anyway it said a serving size was 7 chips, and i probably ate 10 of them.

so now here i am...24 hours later feeing sick (stomach cramps)... and i'm thinking that must be why... BUT it seems odd to me that 24 hours later i'd be feeling sick. maybe it's because i only ate lunch yesterday, then those chips, than nothing else until lunch today?

anyway, just wondering if anyone else has tried products with olestra in them, and if it made you sick.

I eat it every now and then and I haven't had any problems. Olestra is one of those things that affects some people's GI systems, and others' it's just fine. But 24 hours is a very long time to feel the effects, so I'd doubt that Olestra was the cause of your discomfort. I'd try it again sometime. If you're going to be sick from it, it's bound to happen with 3 hours at LEAST. But heck, for fat free, you might as well give it another try.

Yup you're right

it definitely isn't the chips...cause i ate more of them and i was fine.

weird though cause i didn't eat anything at all that day...except at lunch...and i had grilled chicken and a salad (and my best friend had the same and wasn't sick)...but i felt like throwing up the entire rest of the day.

How do those taste? I've never (and will never) tried them. When it first came out on the market I thought yes! there is a God! But then I read an article about all the side effects some people have. They were all pretty bad but the most disturbing was...ready...anal leakage. 24 hours seems too long for it to be the chips, but it wouldn't surprise me.

24 hours later-- definitely NOT the Olestra. I personally think the things taste great. I'ts so much better than baked chips. They bother one of my friends, but then... she gets "anal leakage" every time she eats anything remotely spicey or tasty. Sorry, that was gross. Back when Olestra/Olene was first introduced, one of my professors was on some panel researching it. He wasn't sure about it just becasue it was new and possible long term side effects or whatever, but he was just under the idea that go ahead and try it, if ya don't like it, don't eat 'em.

Red face olene chips

Just had the chips 2 days ago. They make me feel ill as well. They also leave a oily/waxy coat on my tounge that you can't see, but feel. Has anyone else had this reaction?

Fat free doesn't mean healthy. Sometimes it is not worth it.
Everything in moderation.

Smile

24 hours is a long time, but some things won't show a reaction until then. I think most things start to react with in 4 to 6 hours of eating if it will make you sick. I used to work as a manager in food so I had to take all these classes on it. Unfortunately it was eons ago, and my memory is awful, so I'm not too sure about the time frame.

Glad to hear you're doing better Em.
