OK Guys, I have just been into the Cuisine Forum and found Haggis high on the menu.

I love haggis but is it good or bad for your health?

Pros and cons please.

some of both I'd say

Fibre from the oats and fruit, useful cmpds from the onions and spices.

Bad maybe the suet. How much in a serving? Moderate amounts of anything but true poisons won't kill you.

Well, all in all, I think it is far better for the health than burgers and deep fried stuff. And of course, for the soul it is GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!

Very bad...

Haggis is really good, but the suet makes it bad for your health. I used to have the traditional recipe with the facts, but I lost it. I know the recipe from memory and make it all the time. However I never seem to gain weight.

It depends very much on the type of haggis. The tinned stuff is a lot higher in fat than fresh haggis. The lungs and heart which are in haggis are a good source of protein and are relatively low in fat and the oatmeal is a good source of fibre and can lower your cholestorol. It is high in carbohydrates which provide energy so all in all I would say it was quite a healthy food.
