Some nights I kind of half wake up,but I can't move and it feels like I'm going to die, usually suffocation(it feels like I can't breathe but I think I probably am breathing all the while - not sure though).I have to try really hard to 'snap out of it'.What can I do to stop this from happening?

ps - it doesn't really bother me too much, but it is an annoyance sometimes, esp when it happens several times in one night.

sleeping problems

Hi,

I don't want to make you feel startled with fear, but you should see a doctor about it - it is possible (yet not sure!) that this kind of sleeping troubles is caused by an insufficiency of the heart or any other heart problem which does not necessarily have to cause any pain. As I have seen how severe such things can grow if you don't pay attention to them, I would recommend that you have your heart checked, just in order to be on the safe side!

If it's just stress, try this:

2 teaspoons of rosemary
2 teaspoons of lavender
3 teaspoons of hops
2 teaspoons of honey:

Make a pot of tea of it and drink it half an hour before going to bed. You could also prepare a bath with rosemary and lavender oil, but note that you need to mix the oil with a cup of milk so it won't burn your skin.

Try to avoid chocolate and white wine in the evening.

I hope I could help you.

Get better soon!

All the best,

Franziska

Thanks,Jacobitedreamer.Maybe I should check to be sure, but I don't think it's my heart. The second I snap out of it,all the symptoms disappear immediately,as though they were all imaginary. And I sometimes get the illusion(very convincing at the time)that I'm floating. It might actually be stress that triggers it as it started just before my last exams at school.I'll try that drink you suggested ,though,it sounds nice.

Sleeping problems

You say that you feel like floating the moment the problem occurs, I used to have a similar problem when I was about 16. It felt like you were falling very, very slowly and I could stop it with the very drink and some sort of bedtime meditation.

Best wishes to you,

Franziska
