I suffer from insomnia as well. What I like to do is light a few vanilla and lavender candles ( aroma therapy has worked well for me). I meditate for about 30 minutes .I have also cut out caffine about four hours before bed. Hope something works for your friend.

If she has trouble actually dropping off to sleep, Passionflower Tea is a good hypnotic. Doesn't put you in a trance but is very good for helping you go to sleep. Passionflower is a very good herb for Mothers with babes or small children as they may not want to be put into a deep sleep. Ozkat

Smile Passionflower

In European phytomedicine, passionflower is used for states of nervous tension, especially in cases of sleep disturbance or exaggerated awareness of heart palpitations at doses ranging from 0.5 to 2 g of the herb and 2.5 g of the herb in infusion (tea), taken three to four times a day. No toxicity has been observed in laboratory animals, and they also showed no adverse effects of passionflower extracts administered intravenously in mice. The German monograph on passionflower lists no known contraindications, side effects or drug interactions.
