How dangerous to health are the pungent smell and fumes resulting from the Indian sty

We are students from India, living in an apartment in US which is perfectly airtight unless we open windows and doors. I am worried about health problems that may arise due to the pungent smell and fumes of burnt oil, charred spices, onions, etc. We are afraid of cold and keep the windows and doors always closed. When entered from outside, we feel the pungent smell. But within minutes of entering, we don't feel any smell. The exhaust fan is not removing all the smell.

You don't say where you are living but I suspect the smell of onions and cooking oil are probably not life threatening. If you are cold, move to Florida, southern California(might get wet) or southern Arizona if the smell of southwestern cooking, chilies, beans, etc doesn't bother you. Stay out of Tandoori , pizza , Polish , Hungarian, etc restaurants.
