You're as Young as your Arteries
Perhaps you already know that arteries are the vessels that carry blood away from your heart. But did you know that the heart pumps blood out through one main artery known as the aorta? This main artery then divides into many smaller arteries so that each region of your body, including your brain, has its own system of arteries supplying it with fresh, oxygen-rich blood.
Simply put, you're as young as your arteries. Main Factors in Arterial Aging Most of the premature aging of your arterial system undergoes is a result of your lifestyle. You age yourself by not taking proper care of your body, The good news is that you can start reversing the process at any age. You already know many things you can do to improve your arterial health, but it never hurts to repeat them: * Eat a diet low in saturated and trans fats * Do a little physical activity every day, no excuses. * Manage your stress * Take half an aspirin a day with a glass of warm water after your doctor says its OK to do so * Drink a single glass of wine with dinner * Get 2 grams of omega-3 fats a day Take an Aspirin a Day Aspirin is good for the arteries because it inhibits the enzyme system that causes clotting. For the same reason, due to its acidic nature, it can exacerbate ulcers. Avoid problems by taking two babies of half a regular aspirin a day with plenty of water. Your arterial health is essential to your overall good health. Keeping your arteries young will keep you young from the inside out. |
