Scotland's health

I wonder how many people in the forums are aware of the poor state of Scotland's health as a nation?

Longevity and quality of life are amongst the lowest in western europe for many people in Scotland as quite a few recent reports from the EU have outlined.

I wonder how many people share the in the sad truth of these statistics and how many of us ponder the causes of our lack of taking care of ourselves.

My own theory is that being an adjunct to England rather than being independent in mind and spirit is crippling Scotland. The dilution of a true autonomy for Scottish people makes life seem less worthwhile somehow. I only hope and pray that this situation changes but I suspect that vested interests won't allow it to happen.

Looking at the increasing health; vitality and self esteem of countries such as Ireland will hopefully bring home the reality of what is killing us here in Scotland.

What is killing people in Scotland is the food that some like to eat here - deepfried foods etc - the fact that so many smoke and that so many enjoy more than a few bevvies at a time.

In fact, the money that we get to spend on our health services is actually better than most health authorities in England.

Gonnae move the chip ontae the ither shooder?

New figures released recently show a drop in those being admitted to Scottish hospitals suffering from cardiovascular problems. It's being attributed to the ban on smoking and if it is the case then it's a scandal that it wasn't introduced years ago.

I saw that report, AndyJ3. Amazing drops in CV illnesses - both in secondary smokers and the habitual users of the weed!
