I AM copying this from a magazine, but I feel the info is so important that everyone needs to see this (If I end up in jail somewhere, I'll just blame it on Scotland.com...)(LOL)
This was printed in a woman's magazine. Now that I've said that, here goes: How to Tell if It's a Heart Attack Knowing the warning signs of a heart attack could save your life. If you have several of the symptons listed below, call 911 immediately.(Oops, THAT may relate only to the USA; those of you in other places, use your own emergency call system.) Every minute you delay puts you at greater risk of heart damage. While you're waiting for the ambulance to arrive, chew and swallow, without water, a regular, full-strength aspirin tablet to help prevent blood clotting (yes, it tastes bitter, but the aspirin will get into your system faster this way). Once you get to the hospital, DON'T underplay your symptons: Tell the doctors you think you may be having a heart attack and need a thorough evaluation, including an electrocardiogram (EKG) and a blood test to check cardiac enzymes. It's crucial to have BOTH tests, because an EKG alone can miss 60 percent of heart attacks. Classic Symptons (More Common In Men, But Can Also Affect Women): *Discomfort, fullness, tightness, squeezing or pressure in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or comes and goes *Chest pain that radiates to the shoulders, neck, arms or back *Chest discomfort, accompanied by dizziness, faiting, sweating, nausea, vomiting or shortness of breath Atypical Symptons (More common in Women, But Can Also Strike Men): *Abdominal pain or stomach pain *Dizziness, fainting, sweating, nausea, vomiting, or shortness of breath WITHOUT chest pain *Sudden, unexplained weakness, fatigue or anxiety, especially after exercise. Also, a recent study shows that sleeplessness may be an early sympton, up to a month before a heart attack. Her are some ore hints...Did you know that nuts are good for you? (I'm speaking of ALMONDS, by the way...) Again, this is from that same magazine... 23 Almonds a Day. How are you getting yours? Eating a handful of almonds a day (about 23) is something everyone should take to heart. Not only are they a delicious, healthy snack, they're easy to find in all your favorite foods throughout the day---from cereals to baked goods to salads to desserts. The Healing Power of Soup A steamy bowl of soup is not just the perfect meal on a cold night, it's also packed with tons of good-for-you ingredients. Soups are a great way to sneak more vitamins and minerals into our diet because they typically contain a lot of vegetables, says Marilyn Tanner, a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. What's more, soups have a lower energy density than many foods (such as pastas) which means you can eat larger portions yet consume fewer calories.
