Well, it's starting to be that season again!

My housemate has come down with a sore throat so i made for her one of my throat remedies... it tastes quite good!

Peel two or three inches of fresh ginger root, slice and place in a pan with about a quart of water. Boil for 20 minutes to an hour. Add fresh lemon juice and honey to taste. Serve steaming hot.

"A recent Spanish study found that people who have a daily glass or two of red wine are up to 44% less likely to catch a cold than teetotalers.... But if tea is more to your liking, that works, too. Studies suggest that drinking five cups of black, green, oolong or pekoe tea a day can make our immune sytems kick in five times faster to ward off bacterial and viral infections." Cheese is a good remedy for colds. Make a sandwich of whole-wheat bread, raw yellow onion, a good half inch of horseradish, cheddar cheese, and brown mustard. A daily dose will prevent the common cold.

Eek - I think I'd skip the horseradish.

Onion soup is said to be good for colds.

Oh, and garlic too, although I realise that there are some (completely insane) people who dislike it.
