For the last ten years i've snipped an interesting article here and there and kept them in a notebook arranged by category, and as many here are concerned about cancer i thought you'd be very interested in some of the interesting articles i've found. I'll type a few snippets here and if you want to know more you can track down the article, or if you can't find it then email me, i could always mail you a copy.

From an article, "Enjoy the sun -- and lower your skin cancer risk 76%" - Woman's World, June 10, 2003

"...a study from the Harvard School of Public Health shows that regularly indulging in more than one alcholic drink daily raises your risk of melanoma - the riskiest form of cancer - by up to 80%."

"Dutch studies have shown that smokers are 3.3 times more likely to develop skin cancer than nonsmokers."

"Australian research has shown that just drinking 16 oz of black tea daily can reduce your skin cancer risk up to 40% -- and switch to green tea, and your risk reduction climbs to 50%."

"German research suggests adding just 16 mg of lycopene to your daily diet could slash your risk of sun damage by 40%" Watermelon is an excellent source.

I'll do another article when i get a chance. I have a great one about breast cancer.

From Breakthrough Research: The vitamin that Lowers Your Breast Cancer Risk 90% Woman's World 27 August 2002

"As many as one in eight women could be diagnosed at some point in her lifetime, but according to researchers at Buffalo's State University of New York, a diet rich in tocopherols and tocotrienols can slash breast cancer risk as much as 90%!"

"'In nature, vitamin E is actually a family of eight different compounds' --four called tocopherols, and four called tocotrienols," explains nutritional biochemist Andreas M. Papas, Ph.D., professor of medicine at East Tennessee University. 'Yet most supplements contain only one of these essential nutrients --alpha tocopherol.'"

"It appears you need the combination of tocotrienols and tocopherols to get the full benefits."

"Bonus: according to doctors at the University of California at Santa Barbara, vitamin E neutralizes up to 75% of the cancer-causing substances that enter the intestinal tract, lowering colon-cancer risk at least 16%"

"...a massive new Finnish study suggests that women can slash their risk [of heart disease] by 84% if they opt for a supplement containing all eight members of the vitamin E family."

It also notes in the article that you can find vitamin E with all 8 components in health food stores or at http://www.yasoohealth.com

I hope anyone else with articles about cancer prevention will feel free to post them here, too.

I buy Vitamin E Oil in liquid form and add a couple of drops to
orange juice to drink !!

I also have rubbed it in to my skin when sore, it is good for scarring !!

I used to buy the capsules but got fed up of taking the oil out of
the capsules as
they are made from Gelatine and thats a no go for a vegetarian !!

I buy mine from 'Holland and Barrett' over here !!

"Studies suggest eating three servings of broccoli a week can cut your risk of breast cancer 63%, and slash your risk of heart disease 71%, The credit goes to broccoli's unique, powerful, cell-protecting antioxidants; sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol." Woman's World, 10/21/03

p.s.... I've heard broccoli sprouts are ten times even better!

"Experts say today's lean cuts of beef don't deserve an artery-clogging reputation --in fact, the American Heart Association recommends we all eat more of the extra-lean grass-fed variety. That's because it's the richest known source of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a fatty acid now known to have extraordinary health-protecting powers. Research suggests that a CLA-rich diet can stop --and even reverse --the buildup of plaque in the arteries. And researchers report that women who get the most CLA in their diets have a 60% lower risk of breast cancer."

from Women's World Nov. 4, 2003

"And now Finnish doctors say vitamin C can do a whole lot more: it can save your life! Their research has shown that regularly taking vitamin C cuts a woman's risk of developing a life-threatening illness by 25% -- and adds six years to her life! But there is a snag: 'The government's recommended daily allowance, 75 mg., is too low to prevent anything except scurvy,' says Shari Lieberman, Ph.D., nutrition researcher at the University of Bridgeport School of Human Nutrition in Connecticut. 'For full protection, you need 500 to 1,000 mg. in supplement form daily.'...... Previous studies have shown that vitamin C can boost the production of natural killer (NK) cells -- one of your body's key defenses against rapidly growing cancer cells. 'And vitamin C can also penetrate into precancerous cells, slowing, -- or even stopping -- their growth," adds Lieberman."
