I have moved the thread about poker to the Personal adds as it has nothing to do with either Genealogy or clans

Mackay heritage

Hi,

I have read your Mackay history with great interest and must compliment you on the thouroughness of the contents. Perhaps you can help me out with a missing string in my heritage. We trace our ancestory back to Samuel Mackay who was born in 1737 in Transylvania, Hungary. He immigrated to Quebec eventually and married Marguerite herbin , daughter of Chevalier Louis herbin and Marie-Anne de Niverville (considered a noble family in Quebec) and so on down to my generation.

The confusion lies in with the notion that Samuel's father was supposedly Francis General Mackay who was also born in Hungary and died in the Netherlands in 1770 and his father Stefan Makaj(probably the Hungarian translation of Stephen Mackay) who again is a mystery with his birth being recorded in Hungary in 1670. Stefan's parents were supposedly William Mackay from Kinloch Scotland and Anna Mackay from Scourie who hail back to Donald Mackay & Marjorie Sinclair (father's side) and Hugh Mackay & Anne Corbet on the mother's side. Further back we have Huistan Du Mackay & Jane Gordon (father) Donald Ballock Mackay & Eupehemia Munro both from Scourie on the mother's side.Back farther we have Iye du Macaiodth from Scourie & Christian Sinclair.

There are records in Quebec of the the 2 sons of ? Mackay immigrating but are these two in fact the grandsons of Francis General Mackay who decended from Stefan (Stephen) Mackay who in fact was born to William and Anna Mackay and so on.

Sorry to hurt your head but did William and Anna Mackay have a child? It would appear that one of our relatives died in the Netherlands.

Maybe you can help me out. I would appreciate any info you have on this matter.

Regards, Candy

Mackays?

not sure what history you are referring to?

Something Marhar has posted in the forum somewhere?

Mackay's are not the easiest group of people to sort out.
