I am still searching for information on my family origins in scotland. A very kind lady looked up the registrar in Barrhead and found the death certificate details of my grandmother Jane Morrison nee:Cuthbert.
I know she died at age 46 but I don't know where she was born or where she grew up. I also don't know where my grandfather William Morrison was born but I know he grew up in Neilston and died in Dunlop. Where he is buried I don't know. Can anyone tell me where I should be looking to find this information please? Thankyou I know there is an answer out there somewhere Jean McDowell nee:Morrison

Thumbs up

Hello Jean, The "morrison" family name originated in Isle of Lewis, Scotland, starting about the 1100's, an ancient and illustrious family.

The MORRISON family is distinguished as a Clan in it's own right with a rich extensive history. Did you know, that in ye old days a family could not qualify for clan status unless they had the proven ability to put 250 armed men ahorse within one hour to defend their clan, lands and properites. As well as providing a fighting men for their leige lord and king.

The MORRISON family first appears in the records of Isle of Lewis where they were recorded as an ancient Isle of Lewis family before the year 1100.

The notable MORRISON family is shown in the ancient manuscripts and cartularies as tracing their ancestry to Viking origin. The most ancient MORRISON family Coat of Arms was recorded between the 12th and 15th .

The morrison Family Coat of Arms traces its roots back to ancient times where it was carried onto the field of honor, with chivalry to defend family and allies, king and country.
