Searching for relatives. Dalrymple Street, Girman (Yirvan?) and Burnfoot Rows, New Cumnock? My grandparents were Alexander Martin Harrison (1894-1963) married to Catherine Collins Barbour (?Cathleen Connor - paperwork varies). His father was James Harrison, a railway porter married to Isabella Hendrie Harrison. Theor first born died shortly after birth, my father also James died in 1975 in USA, his youngest sister (?Mary Isabelle/Mabel) died at around 7 yrs. of age due to ruptured appendix in Scotland - this malady has "haunted" all subsequent Harrison generations - almost lost father James to it and myself (Kimberly) - his remaining heirs in USA are wife Geraldine Helena (age 76); his son Gordon Alexander (age 50) - Gordon's children Jill Christa (age 26) and Eric Jason (age 24); his daughter Kimberly (age 43) (no children); and his son James Scott (age 41) - James's children Jessica Rae (age 8) and James Joseph (age 6). Would love to find my father's family. And - of course, does Harrison have a tartan?

Harrison
Harrison is not a Scottish surname, it is English., so no clan connection there. We
think the town name is Irvine, as it and New Cumnock are both in Ayrshire,Scotland. Searching the IGI we found a James Robb Harrison born 10th June 1866 at Irvine, his parents were Thomas Harrison and Martha Robb, further searching gave us their marriage date15th June 1863, and three other children, Ann Peat Harrison born 20th February 1864, Margaret Harrison born 15th September 1872 and Henry Law Harrison born 20th December 1874. Next we searched the 1881 Census foir the family of Thomas and Martha without success, but, found a family at 16 Cotton Row Irvine, they were Richard Harrison head age 44 Miner born in England Martha wife 38 born Kilwinning Ayrshire Annie dau 17 James son 14 (3 moths later he was 15) Richard son 12 Margaret dau 08 William son 03 Isabella dau 9 months all children were born at Irvine. The change in the Fathers name could be the fact that he did not like his own one,or the enumerator wrote the wrong one down ( this often happened). The birth years are matched for the two eldest children and Margaret would have been 9 iyears old later on in 1881. Those similarities could mean this is your ancestral line. The IGI did not provide us with a son named Richard. A search through the records at New Register House Edinburgh would be the best way to prove this. There are professional researchers who can do this for you. The registry has a web site at New Register House. Hope this helps Marhar.
