I looked this up in a book:

Gillespie: "servant or follower of a bishop". From the Gaelic 'gille easbuig'. A sept of Clan MacPherson.

Now you know!

Speaking of gillespie's, is there any that are around.
I am a Gillespie from Canada and I'm interested with talking to others from scotland...
