Talking Robert Bruce

This week I was able to trace my family to Robert Bruce 1 and I am esctatic. It took me a couple years of looking and I finally found the link I was looking for this week. I also found the link that leads to the younger brother of William Wallace as well. After being off-line for several months, this search has finally paid off. It takes persistance and just looking over every name that might be related no matter how small the chance.

Bruce Surname

It seems that everybody with the surname "BRUCE" seems to be related to Robert de Brus.
I am quite amazed that all these people can get that far back.
Im tracing both sides of my tree and when you hit 1500's its extremely difficult to actually understand wills etc because of the olde English words and spelling.
I am a BRUCE by birth ive only managed to get back with a DEFINATE link through parish records to 1764 in Heworth Durham. All my family have been Durham and Northumberland born.
I use IGI on family search purely as reference as 9 times out of 10 when you get a copy of the original register they have been transcribed wrong.
I dont for one minute think im related to Robert de Brus as im sure all these people who claim to be would be in Burkes peerage listed ?
Anyway anyone who is researching Bruces and comes upon any in Jarrow, Heworth in Durham and Newcastle i would be interested to hear from them in case we connect.
