Talking To Marhar & Steven Wallace

To Marhar: Thanks to the link you gave me I was able to trace my family a little further..back to 1634 in Aberdeen, Scotland! I'm so excited to have gotten that far! Thank you so much!

To Steven Wallace: How did you get your family traced all the way to the 1500's? My Bruce family also would have came to the states sometime around 1730 and settled in Frederick Co, VA. What's your ancestors name that settled here? I'd really like to hear more from you. Drop me a line at pattik3764@hotmail.com

If your line does go through "The Bruce" then maybe you should look into the Earls of the Orkneys.

(Father) Rongvald "The Wise"
"Turf" Einar Rongvaldson-Earl of the Orkneys
(1st Son) Hdlover Thorfinson-Earl of the Orkneys
(Grandson) Sigurd II "Digri' Hdloverson
(2nd Grandson) Brusi Sigurdson-Co Earl of the Orkneys
(3rd Grandson) Ragnvald II Brusesson-Co Earl of the Orkneys
(4th Grandson) Robert de Brus
(5th Grandson) Adam Brus
(6th Grandson) Robert Brus
(7th Grandson) Robert "Le Meschins" Brus
(8th Grandson) William de Bruce
(9th Grandson) Robert de Bruce
(10th Grandson) Robert "the Competitor" de Brus
(11th Grandson) Robert de Bruce
(12th Grandson) Robert I "The Bruce" King of Scotland

if you have the PAF program done through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint, I would be happy to send you this gedcom file.
I would also like to state that, if you are looking in Black "Surnames of Scotland" I would quit. He seems to "miss" a lot of information when he uses the exact same source. For example, My surname is Mair, in Black's it says that we where the "Mayor" of a city, or the like their of. But if you look in Nisbets book, a book that has been quoted by black, it say, about Mair, "...Mair of the old Delamare..." This is one of the many, many mistakes that Black has made. Just my soapbox though.

Hi Eochaid39!
Thanks for the info. What is the PAF program? I've been into links like familysearch.com, genealogy.com, ancestry.com, etc., but not sure what PAF is. I'm still new at the internet searching. I've done all my previous search by visiting genealogy libraries and being lucky enough to run into a few books on early settlement towns where my family resided. Any & all suggestions are very helpful and extremely appreciated.
Thank you!

PAF is the genealolgy program that can be downloaded at http://www.familysearch.com

When you do a search on all resources at Family search ancestral files have been submitted to them in PAF format.

Many other geanealogy programs can export or import PAF format.

You're Welcome. I have done a few there myself but haven't had the best success there. I've done better through posting to international genealogical message boards through http://www.rootsweb.com.

Just found a cousin on Sunday!

Post nomandy line

So if Robert de brus was desented from the earls of Orkey, does this mean that all those from his line are as well? and why did the family go from Orkey to france then England and then to have some return to Scotland? any answers will be helpful..
