Marhar (Moderaror);
Thank you for the reply. I think that I may be getting closer to my destination. We have a very old picture of a rock with Clan MacIntosh engraved in it, and it was supposedly to be near where we were from. My father whom is no longer, told my mother that this was in Blair Athol. She has a very old map (Pratts High Plains of Scotland), and this located, South to Nairn on the map. When I used your Archive files maps to find the Clan names, that is approximately where it would have been. Is there still a place called Blair Athol?, because I can't seem to find it on any map that I have looked at recently. Apparently, at some point my grandfather went back to Scotland to try and reclaim a family castle from our heritage, but the back taxes were too significant, and he told the Authorities in charge, to use it as a tourist attraction. I don't know why but your surname also rings a bell, but I can't put a finger on it. Could you get back to me please Charles (Chuck, Chas) MacIntosh |

Blair Atholl is 8 miles north west of Pitlochry in Perthshire on the main road ( A9 ) to Inverness. The Castle there has been in the hands of the Dukes of Atholl since 1629, their family name is Murray.
McIntosh country is further north by some 60+ miles nearer to Inverness. The present McIntosh Chief lives close to Loch Moy , not in a Castle but in a modern house. On one of our maps there is a Castle marked on a small island in Loch Moy, I guess it is a ruin. The engraved stone you describe is very like the Clan Grave markers that are dotted over Drummossie Muir, Culloden, where the battle was fought in April 1746. Do you have your grandfather's birth date and his full name. we could perhaps trace him in the IGI. If he was born before 1881 we might be able to trace him in the Census. If he was younger than that we cannot be of much help to you. Try the following 2 sites they may be of interest to you. http://www.highlanderweb.co.uk/blood...en/bloody5.htm http://www.mcintoshweb.com/clanmcintosh/ this one is the Clan web site Marhar ( my nickname Mar for wife---Har for me )

Last Name
Sorry:
The name I was thinking of was "Megharg", apparently that is a very distant cousin. You'll have to excuse me for being all over the place, as I am still trying to get accustomed to this format. I still await my last communication with you. Any luck??? In which communication venue would you prefer to speak to me? And how do I get the Message Icon I want to select, to be shown??
