Alexander I and David I were brothers so they weren't your 27th and 28th great grandfathers. David I was the son of Malcolm III and they couldn't both be 28th great grandfathers. It's a bit pointless worrying about "clan membership" when you haven't properly researched the genealogy.

Jeez Andy-J3....who wiz yoor scottish ancestor? The Reverend I. M. Jolly?
So, now we are back to reality, it look likes it's time for us to 'haud oor wheesht' and give an explanation of our scottish sense of humour to oldkings and to our lovely american forum members here.
Well, my explanation anyway. Mustn't speak for others.
The majority of true Scots are not pretentious in any way. We know our history and are happy with who we are. If a guy in a pub were to claim he had royal ancestry, he would probably be met with a chorus of 'awa an bile yer heid' accompanied with raucous laughter.
However, almost every Scot has met at least one person from abroad who will tell us they have Scottish ancestors. We genuinely love that.
But unfortunately the majority go on to tell us their ancestors were of royal blood or owned castles. At that point we just nod and smile politely.
I reckon if I added up all these castle stories I have been told over the years we have several thousand missing castles in Scotland.
So its become a bit of an in joke in Scotland over the decades.
"I met an American/Canadian/Australian/Kiwi, today".
"That was nice? How many castles did his great grandad own?"
The introduction of these genealogy sites seem to be adding to the claims and I wonder just how accurate some of them are or how easy it is to fully navigate them.
Also, we Scots genuinely cannot understand why many people need to feel related in some way to royalty? We just don't 'get it'.
Someone enlighten me.
So apologies oldkings if our humour has offended you in any way. We were just having a bit of fun amongst ourselves and meant no ill will towards you.
