Coats of Arms for Thomas Henderson Glasgow 1872

I have just done a bit of research on heraldry and coat of arms as I'm doing some research into our family history. I am well aware that a coat of arms cannot be assigned to a family, but to an individual only, but we did have a coat of arms that my grandfather had purchased from one of those places that give you history of your last name etc, as well as a nice coat of arms.

It is interesting because it was different than most of the Henderson coat of arms you see online, though it had some common elements. I also found that it had a a completely different crest associated with it, and not that of a cubit arm proper holding a star with a crescent on top. It also had a different motto which was "Secure Amidst Perils" and not "Sola Virtus Nobilitat".

However, I have now uncovered the owner of this particular coat of arms as being a Thomas Henderson from Glasgow in 1872. I have also uncovered a few other different coat of arms belonging to different Hendersons.

Thomas Henderson was the son of John Henderson and Janet Shanks, and the coat of arms was granted to him in 1872.

If anyone is interested in this info, please let me know. The oldest Henderson I have in my family came to Canada from Ireland, so I still don't know which part of Scotland our family came from, and I doubt I am related to John from Glasgow in 1872, but it is so very interesting doing all this research.

So... if you know of a Henderson that moved to Canada from Ireland close to 1900, let me know! I actually don't have the exact date either... I need to find the rest of my records.

To any other Hendersons... finding out if you were a Sept of Clan Gunn or not depends on which part of Scotland you were from. If I'm not mistaken.

Feel free to correct me. I'm here to learn.
