Citzenship Question

Hello,

My grandfather on my fathers side was born in Scotland. My parents were both born in Australia, as was I. I reside in Australia. My father has a British passport.

Am I able to apply for a passport or citizenship? I know there are several topics on this already, but unfortunately I have been unable to find what I am looking for. Thank you for your assistance!!

Regards,
James

See UK Border Agency | What is British citizenship? and, if you can't find out from there, contact your local British Embassy or Consul.

You should be able to. A friend of mine is from Scotland and he got his grandson citizenship for his 8th birthday present.

It's not straightforward as getting it for a child is quite different from getting it because an adult has a British parent. He needs to take proper advice.

(The general rules for children are found at UK Border Agency | Children born to British subjects )

I didn't say for certain.. I said 'should'... conditional.

This child... has a British grandparent... not parent and was able to get citizenship. Just paperwork and money... but then again... that's all conditional

JC hows did that work?

are the kids parents uk passport holders?

the kid must have connections to the uk other than his grandparents surely.

i dont really know how it works but i thinks theres more to it than money and paperwork to get a UK passport

"Should" is indeed conditional - but it's a lot more definitive than words such as "possibly" or "may be" which I think would have been more appropriate to use, especially when your "evidence" is so anecdotal.
