Here's a map of Aberdeen dating from 1789. I've had a look but can't see anything which fits but you might.

It was a religious ceremony and it was not in the Town House. The Minister's name - Revd D Duncan Shaw Esq - is given in the third line of the image and many old churches in Scotland have Session Houses where, as far as I know, the Kirk Session met.

A tiny bit of information about Duncan Shaw can be found here and more can be found through subscribing to that site or by accessing it through a library.

OH NO

I should have read it first...just copied for the parents to look at !!

Thinking about the size of Aberdeen at that time, could it be Kirk Session of the Cathedral Church of St Machar.

Found a bit of info about the Dunbar Street Hall...The hall belongs to the Kirk Session of St Machar’s; it was the Kirk Session which provided the major proportion of the funding for the refurbishment of the Hall. I also found out that the Hall was the Old Town House too.

Looking for all this info makes me want to go back up there to live, mind you I did want to go back within a month of leaving !

Possibly, though it's not clear from the extract if it was Old Aberdeen or (New) Aberdeen where it took place. I suspect that it was the latter, in which case we could be talking of the Mither Kirk.
