Birthplace census query
Hi folks, I have recently been researching my family tree and while looking at the 1861 census for my grt grt grt Grandad Archibald McLaren I noticed that his birth place is written down exactly as St. Johns N.b (British Subject). For everyone else on the census birthplace is listed by county and then town/city and nowhere else is it emphasised that anyone else is a British subject. So I was wondering if anyone knew where St. Johns N.B is and why he is the only person that has British Subject emphasised next to his birth place, does it mean that he was born outside the UK? any help would be much appreciated.
