John Brown Adams died in India 6th Nov 1863

I wonder if anyone can help me please, I am trying to find information on the Highland Light Infantry 1858-1863. My Great great great Grandad was in the 71st HLI and was killed in 1863 in the Umbeyla campaign/Eusofzai. I have a very old photo of a memorial with JB Adams (John Brown Adams) name on which I have recently found out is in Glasgow Cathederal. I know he died 6th Nov 1863 but I have no idea when or where he was born and who he was married to and was hoping to findi his military records. I do know that he had a son (also John Brown Adams) who was born in India in 1861 (no idea who the mother was) and ended up being adopted in Glasgow by 1871 as I found him on the census.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Some ideas, try the Poors Law Records at the Mitchell, the staff will give you a wee tuition here, you get the original records. I presume you've already been to Martha Street for the relevant certificates. You can then book time, I think there's a fee, at the Family History Centre at Park Circus, and search as many records as the time permits. Cheers, wullie.

Bumble, try writing to the Mitchell Library, North street, Glasgow G3. Give them what info' you have from the census, address etc', and ask if there is anything on the family in the Poors Registers, these give all sorts of stuff not on the certificates, these can be got online from Scotlandspeople or in person at Martha Street, just above George Square. Good Luck, wullie.
