Surname : Hyndman
I have been searching for info on my g.g.grandmother Mary Jane Campbell (nee Hyndman). She was b. abt . 1803 in Scotland and died Jan. 3, 1877 in Salem , Cumberland Co., NovaScotia , Canada. She married James Campbell on May 1, 1829 and this union was registered in both Tolbooth Kirk , Edinburgh and Kilmarnock Ayr. Any Connections there ? Dave Campbell

Not sure if there is any connection between our Hayman/Hyndman families. My Hyndmans were originally Haymans from Argyllshire and supposedly the Isle of Mull. Mine spoke Gaelic. My Hayman/Hyndmans settled in Tatamagouche, Cumberland Co., Nova Scotia, Canada. The first Hayman/Hyndman of my family was a loyalist he settled in Tatamagouche rather then the uninhabitable land granted to him in another county. Good luck in your searches ![]() J.McNeill

I'd start there and have a good look - it might also prove interesting even if your people were not from there. James.

The Clan MacNeil DNA project so far has revealed no connection to the so far tested Barra MacNeils. Plus Barra records only start in 1805 and later. The Cape Breton band you are referring to is the Barra MacNeils. My Mac/McNeills settled in Colchester Co., Nova Scotia. Good luck in your searches, J.

Have you tried contacting the local library? North Carolina was another large area for Scottish immigration during the Clearances. My local library has a 'NC room' that contains the immigration records of all Scots coming into NC. If your person is registered, you should be able to find more personal information about them to help you with your search.
