My name is of Scandinavian origin, so is not a "clan" name. Lincolnshire is in England, not Scotland....

clanmcelwain ,
The only ones who will truly know about your family/ sept / clan name history are those who are of it .
And they will share this with you for free.
Paying out money to 'genealogy manufacturers', on the off chance that you will receive anything in return , is pointless .
Why pay to be ripped of ,
search out your kinfolk's sites .
There are a few on the net .
Clan society web pages , family name forums , DNA research sites etc .

Mcelwain

Hello Macelwain,

Your surname is an Ayr name derived from Macgilvane; from ; mac Gille Bheathain sevant Gille Beathan (Bean) = MacBean.

As the name is of Lowland origin, it would not be a clan name, but a hybrid derived over time from the way the name was spelled in records. Your family name traces to Pennsylvania; about 1760.

Work with your name not a "clan identity".

Reagrds
J
