Galloway's

I am seeking some information on the Galloway Clan. I have two family Bibles, one dated 1723 with reference to my paternal ancestor James Woods Galloway and one dated 1753 with extensive dates and events written in the front and rear covers. I have also in my family heirloms the Galloway Tapestry and would like to know if anyone can direct me in having it verified and registered, my great grandfather James Reece Galloway of Chilliwack British Columbia, Canada received it from family in Scotland around the turn of the 20th century and has been passed down here ever since.

There seems to be confusion about whether the Galloways (a lowland/borders family) were ever a 'clan' in their own right or whether they were a sept of Clan MacFarlane.

The name originates fom the Galloway area in SW Scotland.

As for the tapestry question... I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean it is an ancient heirloom, or that a Galloway in Scotland made it at the turn of the twentieth century and sent it to your family in Canada? If the former, then one avenue would be to write the Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, who might be able to authenticate it for you. But, if it is a tapestry from the early twentieth c, then it is is little interest (except to your family, obviously!) historically speaking. I've got family tapestry work dating from the late 1700s/early 1800s and it is only of interest to my family!

Tapestry

Hello and thank you for your suggestion I will contact the museum as it is an ancient heirloom, it is approximately 30' X 20' in size.
Again, thank you for the help.
